What is a CDN?
Every website is hosted on a server somewhere in the world. For example, SiteGround offers multiple data centers in different parts of the world (USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia) and our Thailand Email Database customers are free to choose the data center they prefer when purchasing our hosting. When your visitors open your website. They connect to the server that hosts it. The closer your visitors are to the server. The faster your website will load and the better the user experience will be. However, the purpose of a website is to be accessible and fast from anywhere in the world 24/7. For this purpose, there is a CDN.
What is CDN? CDN is a content delivery network that caches parts or the entire site and loads it from the server that is physically closest to your visitors. Essentially, it stores copies of your site in many locations around the world. So, if you have a CDN running, every time a user visits your site, it will be loaded from the location closest to them, instead of loading it from the origin server. As a result, a CDN service greatly reduces page load times and speeds up your website.
What are the benefits of CDN for your site?
Websites with international visitors
If your site has a lot of international traffic, it will be well distributed across different CDN locations. So how long you want the CDN to keep a cache of your files is important. If you set your CDN to keep cached copies for too long, say a month, but you make frequent changes to your site during that time. They won’t show up in real time until you manually clear the cache. Likewise, if you set the cache time too short. It won’t work as it should. Because the idea is to have a cached version for a certain amount of time. So, it’s a good idea to choose a time period that works for your site depending on how often you want to make changes. For example, SiteGround CDN’s cache time is set to 12 hours by default. But you can customize it to your needs in the Premium version.
