Fortinet solution combines 5G, AI and Zero Trust

Fortinet solution combines Fortinet announces a new appliance that, according to the manufacturer, was specifically develop for advance, secure network functions and 5G connectivity for OT (Operational Technology) environments. The FortiGate Rugged 70G with 5G dual modem is equipp with the new fifth generation Fortinet Security Processing Unit (SP5). It aims to offer better network performance, FortiGuard AI-support security services (artificial intelligence) and high availability through a 5G dual modem. Use cases here include decentralize ATMs in the banking sector, for example.

More and more companies from different industries require a fast, reliable and secure network architecture in remote locations and harsh environments.

Connecting and protecting remote locations

More and more networks are being set up in remote locations that protect large amounts of sensitive traffic and ensure high availability. Setting up such networks “is often complicated and expensive,” confirms John Maddison, CMO and EVP, Product Strategy at Fortinet. Where previously many individual products were use, today a single appliance is use for simplicity. The advantage: There is no complex, poorly functioning infrastructure that is expensive to manage and difficult to protect. The single appliance solution aims to meet all network, security and connectivity requirements in remote OT environments.

Security Connectivity for OT

The FortiGate Rugge 70G with 5G dual modem expands the Moldova Phone Number List Fortinet portfolio of next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) with, as the name suggests, 5G connectivity. The appliance combines enterprise-class threat protection with powerful network features such as SD- WAN and Zero Trust Network Access . It also offers wireless WAN capabilities for high availability.

“Fortinet is well-suite to these types of applications because the company has the expertise to combine networking and security functions in a single appliance that can withstand extreme conditions. The new 5G dual modem is particularly well suite to provide redundant connectivity for remote locations, ensuring availability and uninterrupt service,” said Pete Finalle, Research Manager, Security & Trust, IDC.

The most important functions at a glance:

A 5G dual modem that aims to enable seamless, reliable and fast communication to ensure high availability and improved connectivity for critical applications.
• Secure network performance through the fifth generation cell phone number listing Fortinet Security Processing Unit (SP5), including 8 Gbit/s firewall throughput and 7 Gbit/s IPSec VPN throughput.
• Compact design with a fanless, robust design that is design to withstand harsh conditions such as extreme temperatures, humidity, shock and vibration.
Support security through FortiGuard AI-Power Security Services to protect sensitive data from complex threats.

Fortinet appliance to protect banking sector

A main application area for the FortiGate Rugge 70G with 5G dual modem is remotely locate ATMs, which are often install in complex environments such as stadiums, shopping Bulk Database malls or outdoors. The appliance is design to offer network functionality (SD-WAN for dynamic connectivity, network access control and ZTNA Application Gateway ), security (end-to-end encryption and integrat threat intelligence) and high availability (5G dual modem) especially here.

In addition, according to the manufacturer, the robust form factor meets the requirements for ATM resilience, such as extreme heat or cold. Thanks to the appliance, banks can upgrade their distribut ATM networks, scale seamlessly to many locations and introduce new services with smaller investments in their infrastructure.
