According to the results, adapting DNS to the new standards is crucial for the introduction of modern network technologies such as 5G , cloud-based managed security services and multi-access edge computing (MEC). The survey also identified the challenges that CSPs’ current DNS faces when moving to decentralized cloud models.
“5G and multi-access edge computing networks have the potential to dramatically change the CSP industry by enabling high- bandwidth , low- latency services ,” said Felix Blank, Senior Manager, Pre-Sales Systems Engineer at Infoblox. “But to fully leverage the benefits of these new technologies, DNS must also evolve.”
Lack of DNS solution for new technologies
DNS is a crucial element for the new network architectures and technologies: 71 percent of respondents confirmed this for 5G technology, 66 percent for cloud-based managed security services and 63 percent for MEC. Nevertheless, only a few CSPs believe that their DNS is currently able to support MEC or 5G-NEC. Many see this as the biggest obstacle to implementing MEC.

More than a third of the CSPs surveyed plan to introduce them in the next 12 to 18 months.
